Mavericks are world champs

The Dallas Mavericks steamrolled past the Miami Heat in the fourth quarter, pulling away for a 105-95 victory and an NBA title.

Dirk Nowitzki watched the clock tick down in disbelief and then ran into the locker room, unsure of what to do with himself.

His teammates and coaches remained on the court in a rather tame celebration, and eventually everyone joined back up for the trophy presentation with commissioner David Stern.

Nowitzki, who averaged 26 points and 10 rebounds in the series, was the unanimous choice for the Finals MVP award. ( Read More…)

Mavericks slip past Heat, 112-103

The Dallas Mavericks lead for most of the way, but the Miami Heat went on a fourth quarter run to put them up four with just a few minutes to play.

It looked as though the Mavericks may have run out of gas, and a lost most certainly would have meant the end to any Dallas NBA title hopes.

However, the hot-shooting Mavericks caught fire again just at the right time, and a bunch of players not named Dirk Nowitzki shot their way to a 112-103 victory.

J.J. Barea, Jason Kidd and especially Jason Terry all hit big shots from the outside in the final minutes to overcome the deficit and pull away in the final moments. ( Read More…)

Mavericks stumble in Game 1

The Dallas Mavericks shot poorly from behind the three-point line and couldn’t keep pace with the Miami Heat in a 92-84 loss in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Dirk Nowitzki also had an off night but still managed to pour in 27 points in a losing effort.

The bigger concern after the game was a torn tendon in a finger on the star’s left hand. Nowitzki doesn’t believe it will be a big deal but will likely have to wear some type of splint to protect it.

Dallas certainly had a chance to steal Game 1 in Miami and take back homecourt advantage, but they seemed a little bit rusty after the long layoff. ( Read More…)

Mavericks rally to down Thunder

The Dallas Mavericks overcame a 15-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to pull out an unbelievable 112-105 victory in overtime.

Dallas scored 17 of the final 19 points of the game to erase the large deficit and send it into the extra session.

The Mavericks can thank Dirk Nowitzki and his 40 points for leading the come-from-behind victory.

Nowitzki continues to have an unbelievable postseason, clearly outplaying other top players like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant. ( Read More…)

Mavericks roll past Thunder

Behind a monster game from star Dirk Nowitzki, the Dallas Mavericks rolled past the Oklahoma City Thunder, 121-112, to take Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.

It was the Nowitzki show, as the forward continued his torrid postseason by putting up 48 points. Even more impressive, Nowitzki was an incredible 24-24 from the free throw line.

The free throw performance set an NBA record, and he finished 12 for 15 from the floor after making 11 of his first 12 shots

Thunder head coach Scott Brooks said that his team defended Nowitzki as tight as they could, joking maybe too tight because of his 24 free throw attempts. ( Read More…)

Mavericks to sign Brewer

The Dallas Mavericks didn’t make any deals at the trade deadline, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still add to their roster.

The team has agreed to a multi-year deal with Corey Brewer, who just received a buyout from the New York Knicks.

Brewer has been mostly a disappointment in his short time in the NBA after suffering an ACL injury.

However, he has started to bounce back from the injury and can help teams with his versatility and defense. ( Read More…)

Butler’s knee pain-free

Dallas Mavericks forward Caron Butler declared his knee completely pain free just six weeks after undergoing surgery.

Butler is hopeful that the team will hold onto him rather than trade him for a player who can push them over the hump in the playoffs.

The forward is still holding out hope that he will be available to the Mavericks when the playoffs begin.

He has been on a seven-day per week rehab schedule so that he can meet his goal and help the team in the postseason. ( Read More…)

Mavericks sign Stojakovic

The Dallas Mavericks have signed shooting guard Peja Stojakovic just days after he was released by the Toronto Raptors.

It remains to be seen how much Stojakovic can help them because of a sore knee that has slowed him much of the season.

Stojakovic made it clear that he wanted to return to the Western Conference and play for a contender.

He was also pretty clear about the fact that the Mavericks were the team that he wanted to join. ( Read More…)

Butler hopes for playoff return

Dallas Mavericks forward Caron Butler hasn’t given up hope of returning to help his team this season.

Butler believes he could return to the team if the Mavericks were to make a deep run in the playoffs.

The forward said he knows what muscles he needs to keep in shape in case he is able to return for the postseason.

The idea of possibly returning to the team has kept Butler’s spirits up and the player motivated despite the disappointing injury. ( Read More…)

Butler out for season

Dallas Mavericks forward Caron Butler is out for the rest of the season with a partial tear of his right patellar tendon.

It’s a huge blow to the Mavericks and their NBA title hopes. They were playing very well until his injury.

Butler said that it is still all about winning a championship and that he would be the team’s biggest fan once his surgery is complete.

The team was hopeful that Butler may only have to miss a couple of months, but that wasn’t the case.

Head coach Rick Carlisle said that it’s all about everyone picking up the slack in Butler’s absence. ( Read More…)
