Nowitzki’s Ex Gets Five Years in Jail

PF Dirk Nowitzki’s ex-girlfriend, Cristal Taylor, was sentenced to five years of jail on Monday as a result of violating her probation.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch broke news that Taylor confessed in court on Monday to failing to check in with her probation officer in a 12-year-old forgery and theft case. She later admitted to two other misdemeanors in Texas in 2000.

Taylor, a 38-year-old native of St. Louis, was arrested on May 6 of this year in Nowitzki’s home in Dallas on a 2006 theft of services charge on dental work.

Taylor said that she planned to marry Nowitzki and that she is pregnant with his child. Last month, a Texas judge ordered Taylor to undergo a paternity test; if Nowitzki is the father, he is seeking full custody of the child.

Mavericks won’t let Nowitzki play in Euros

The Dallas Mavericks have informed forward Dirk Nowitzki that they do not want him playing in the European Championships.

Nowitzki was set to play for Germany in the tournament but owner Mark Cuban will not let him do so.

The forward has played in such international competitions in the past, but Cuban was apparently scared by the injury risk.

Cuban and Nowitzki have a close relationship and I’m sure there are no hard feelings between the two sides regarding the decision.

Dirk Can’t Play In Euro Championship

Thanks to Mark Cuban, Germany will be down one superstar next month at the European Championship in Poland.

On Friday, the German basketball federation announced that Mark Cuban would not allow Nowitzki to play as a part of the German team.  Nowitzki has participated in international contests previously.

The German federation’s president went on record saying that they understood Cuban’s decision and had no hard feelings.

Nowitzki also was quoted saying that he understood Cuban’s decision.

While Cuban has not released an official statement on the matter, he may have kept Nowitzki out fearing injury for his star player, much like Tony Parker’s injury playing for the French team earlier this summer.

Mavs Keep Window Open

Mark Cuban doesn’t know the meaning of the word recession.  In a year where most franchises are tightening their spending, Cuban went out and had the most proactive free agent period in the NBA for the Dallas Mavericks.

Cuban went out and organized a four team trade that netted him Shawn Marion (from the Heat) for five years and $39 million.  The Mavericks traded Jerry Stackhouse to the Grizzlies and Devean George and Antoine Wright to Toronto in the deal, acquiring PF Kris Humphries, Australian PF Nathan Jawai and cash considerations in the process.

Two days later, the Mavericks announced that 37-year-old PG Jason Kidd had agreed to a three-year deal worth more than $25 million.  The contract gives Jason Kidd the opportunity to end his career with the same team who drafted him second in 1994.

Despite whiffing on Orlando Magic free agent center Marcin Gortat and allowing the Magic to sign PF Brandon Bass, they did sign free agents Drew Gooden and Tim Thomas, both savvy NBA vets with a number of years of experience between them.

The Magic kept themselves in serious title contention with the additions to their lineup.  While they will undoubtedly miss Turkoglu’s famous fourth quarter heroics this season, the arrival of Carter, Anderson, Marion, Gooden and Thomas should provide a healthy complement to the All-Star lineup of Rashard Lewis, Jameer Nelson and Dwight Howard.
