Mavericks re-sign Thomas

The Dallas Mavericks have re-signed veteran forward Tim Thomas to a contract, though terms weren’t disclosed.

Thomas, the talented veteran out of Villanova, has been an enigma for much of his 13-year NBA career.

He played in 18 games for the Mavericks last season, including one start, and averaged over 7 points per game.

Dallas is his seventh NBA team, as Thomas has found himself to be the subject of trades quite often. ( Read More…)

Cuban cleared to purchase Rangers

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has been cleared by Major League Baseball to make an offer for the Texas Rangers.

Cuban has been rumored to be interested in purchasing a major league team for some time, with his hometown Pittsburgh Pirates being one of his considerations.

However, the fact that the Rangers are up for sale makes them a perfect purchase since he now resides in Dallas and is owner of the Mavericks. ( Read More…)

Cuban wants Heat investigation

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban wants the NBA to launch an investigation of the Miami Heat.

Cuban is questioning how Miami managed to re-sign Dwyane Wade and land Chris Bosh and LeBron James.

The owner wanted to see James either return to Cleveland or sign with his Mavericks, not start a dynasty in Miami.

Cuban wants to see the league develop more definitive rules when it comes to tampering with free agents. ( Read More…)

Mavericks re-sign Haywood

The Dallas Mavericks have re-signed center Brendan Haywood to a six-year contract worth $55 million.

Haywood was acquired by the Mavericks in the middle of last season via trade with the Washington Wizards.

He came over to the Mavericks, along with guards Caron Butler and DeShawn Stevenson, for Josh Howard and others. ( Read More…)

Nowitzki re-signs with Mavericks

Apparently, the grass wasn’t greener on the other side for Dallas Mavericks star forward Dirk Nowitzki.

Opting out of his contract to become a free agent, Nowitzki returned to the Mavericks, signing a four-year deal worth $100 million.

It’s unknown whether Nowitzki really wanted to leave Dallas or was just looking to return with a better contract. ( Read More…)

Cuban fined for James’ comments

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has been fined $100K by the NBA for his comments about LeBron James.

Cuban made comments about attracting James to Dallas, saying it could probably only happen through a sign-and-trade.

The NBA has no tampering rules in place, and the free agency period does not begin until July 1.

NBA commissioner David Stern has made it clear that he does not want teams talking about players on other teams until that date.

I’m sure it also didn’t hurt Stern to hit Cuban with a big fine considering their less than amicable relationship.

Cuban interested in LeBron

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has suddenly voiced his interest in star LeBron James.

Cuban said James is a terrific player than any team would be interested in signing.

He said that the team would have a hard time signing him as a free agent, but that a sign-and-trade with Cleveland could be possible.

The Mavericks already have a high payroll, so they would need to send a good chunk of it back in a trade to be able to bring in James.

It’s doubtful James would have much interest in Dallas, but he would make them the team to beat.

Mavericks facing elimination

The Dallas Mavericks had high hopes coming into the playoffs but now face elimination heading into Game 5.

Dallas, the No. 2 seed, took Game 1 from the rival San Antonio Spurs and seemed too quick for the veteran team.

San Antonio was able to steal Game 2 in Dallas, and has been in control of the series ever since then.

The Mavericks need to find a way to bust out of the half-court game and push their up-temp style to have any chance to come back.

If the Mavericks can protect their home court in Game 5, all they would need is a Game 6 win in San Antonio to return the series to Dallas for the decisive final game.

Butler told to stop chewing straws

The NBA has told Dallas Mavericks guard Caron Butler that he needs to stop chewing straws during games.

Butler has had a habit of sitting on the bench and chewing on straws to help calm his nerves during games.

The guard said he first started doing it in high school and would sometimes go through 12 straws in a game.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said that the league is serious about the request because it is against the rules.

This seems to me to be one of the craziest things I’ve ever heard. Are they going to outlaw gum next?

Cuban wants more games at Cowboys stadium

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban thinks the NBA All-Star game won’t be the last basketball game played at the Cowboys new football stadium.

Cuban said he is contemplating playing an occasional regular season game at the new stadium.

The owner said that it will allow the team to bring in twice as many fans and would be great for marketing the team.

He also thinks it could entice free agents to want to come and play for the Mavericks, who have sold out 341 straight games.

The idea is somewhat similar to what the NHL has done by playing games outdoors in baseball stadiums.
